John Mueller from Google announced
on the Google Webmaster Central blog that they've updated the crawl
error reports specifically to handle better reporting on redirects.
In
the past, Google reported the error observed at the end under of the
first URL (URL A in diagram below). Now, instead they report it at the
final URL (URL B in diagram below).
John Mueller summed it up on Google+ saying:
The
short version is that we'll be showing these errors for the final
destination URL instead of the redirecting URL, which hopefully makes
things a bit easier to diagnose.
Many webmasters
are happier with this change because it makes it easier for them to
diagnose the crawl errors on these redirects.
